There was a chopping incident in Sandhill Village which has left one man hospitalized, pending surgery. That man is Ivan Hyde, a 26-year-old construction worker who was chopped to the neck. For that incident, Jude Joseph Moody, a 28-year-old fisherman also of Sandhill, has been arrested and charged.

Moody was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 14, 2018, represented by attorney Godwin Haylock. There, he appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford where he was read three indictable offenses, neither of which a plea was taken for. Bail could not be offered to him and as a result, Moody was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until August 14, 2018.

On Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:00 p.m., police received information of a chopping incident at mile 19 where CIB personnel of the Ladyville area responded. They later visited the KHMH where they met Ivan Hyde. According to Hyde, he was in front of his friend’s house where other people were playing cards. He approached a man he knew as Jude Moody and asked him what he was doing in the area and that is when Moody walked to his bicycle and drew his machete. He proceeded to chop Hyde to the left side of his neck. According to Hyde, Moody then threatened that he would kill one of the men before he rode off on his bicycle.
