A shooting incident on Saturday, May 12, 2018 has left a 6-year-old injured. According to police reports, police visited the KHMH where they observed a male person by the name of Lamar Orellano who appeared to have gunshot wounds to the body. It was upon inspection of those wounds that the doctor classified them as remnants of a windshield that splintered and hit the minor to the upper right side of his back during the shooting.

Just before 10:00 a.m. on said date, police in the area responded to shots fired at the corner of Vernon Street and Central American Boulevard, near Gadgets store. Upon arrival on the scene, they were informed that the injured minor was taken to the KHMH. It was then that they proceeded to the hospital and made the discovery.

Quick police response led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male from the Mayflower Area who was in possession of a 9mm pistol with 4 live rounds inside the magazine. Police found as many as 10 expended shells on the scene. That minor has since been charged for kept unlicensed firearm, kept unlicensed ammunition, and discharging a firearm in public. According to ASP Alejandro Cowo, it is believed that the shooting incident is as a result of  rivalry between two gangs in the area.
