Two men have now been charged in connection with a shooting incident in which 21-year-old Joshua Augustine was shot at but missed. The shooting incident occurred on Saturday, May 5, 2018 on Police Street and this week, a second suspect was charged.

Charles Young Jr., a mechanic and resident of Police Street appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Michelle Trapp where he was read a single charge of aggravated assault with a firearm upon Joshua Augustine. Due to the nature of the offense, he was denied bail and remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison.

Young Jr. now joins 18-year-old Phozhaun Lewis who was arraigned on Tuesday, May 8 2018 in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Lewis was the first to be picked up by police in connection with the shooting incident. Both Lewis and Young Jr. are due back in court on July 9, 2018.

In a report to police, 21-year-old Joshua Augustine told the police that he was walking on Police Street when he saw two male persons he knew. One of them, who he positively identified as Phozhaun Lewis, pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at him but missed.
