Emmerson Neal, a 33-year-old Belize City carpenter, is lucky to be home and not in jail after he pleaded guilty to supplying a controlled drug to someone else. Neal had initially pleaded guilty but changed his plea on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 when he appeared before Magistrate Michelle Trapp.

The bust was made by an undercover police officer, Robert Chi, on Monday, November 8, 2017 during a sting operation in the Complex Area of Belize City. According to police, officer Chi and other members of the Special Assignment Team were conducting operations in the area as they were targeting persons known to sell weed at a warehouse on M&Y Street, Belize City.

According to Chi, he was dressed in civilian clothing when he approached Neal and asked where he could purchase some weed. The officer had a marked $5.00 bill with which he used to purchase the drugs. After making the transaction, Chi called for backup and that is when Neal was searched and the marked bill was found.

Neal pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency. He was imposed a non-custodial sentence where he was fined $300 plus a $5.00 cost of court, ordered to be paid by June 15, 2018 in default of two months’ imprisonment.
