Fake cops at fake checkpoint steal from NICH Employees Print E-mail

On Thursday, May 24, 2018 at about 10:30 a.m., Ladyville police acted on information received of a robbery on the Maskall Road in the Belize District. Those police officers visited mile 22 on the old Northern Highway where three men reported that upon approaching 4 miles from the Sandhill Village junction, they observed a police checkpoint.

There, they saw a male person dressed in black clothing and another dressed in camouflage searching an SUV. They proceeded to approach the checkpoint and as a result, the individuals stole a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol containing ten 9mm live rounds and a manila envelope containing $4,615, properties of NICH. The robbers proceeded to steal the occupants’ cell phones.

The victims of this robbery are Jimmy Valdez, 25, Errol Torres, 59, and Felix Cruz, 29. Valdez is the Park Sub-Director for the Institute of Archaeology, Torres is a Park Ranger, and Cruz is the Assistance Park Manager. Police are investigating.
