The 2 game in the best of three format Pepsi National Elite Basketball League Finals will take place on Friday, June 1 as Smart Belize Hurricanes will try to sweep the series and grab their second NEBL championship in the past 3 years.  Their city counterparts, DigiCell Belize City Defenders will be forced to defend the city in order to keep their championship hopes alive and extend the series to a decisive game 3.  The two regular season match-ups witnessed two blowout games, with both teams winning at home.  In the first game Defenders won by 18 points only to be blown out by 20 points by Smart Belize Hurricanes in the last regular season game in the inauguration of the Belize Civic Centre. Game 1 of the finals saw another blowout game, where Smart Belize Hurricanes trounced on Digicell Belize City Defenders, winning by 29 points while holding the Defenders to a season low, 41 points.  This was the largest margin of victory in the NEBL Finals.  Regular season MVP, Nigel Jones, and two-time Finals MVP, Darwin “Puppy” Leslie will both need to show up big for game 2 to keep their championship run going.

The top scorers for the Smart Belize Hurricanes were Glency Lopez with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and a steal and Brian White who scored 11 points to go along with his 10 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. For the Digicell Belize City Defenders, the top scorer was Jacob Leslie with 9 points, 1 assist and a steal.

Can Defenders slow down the offensive flow of the Hurricanes squad while also mustering points against a stingy and stifling Hurricanes defence?

Before tip-off on Friday night the NEBL will be giving out the season awards to all winners.
