Belize City police have made an arrest in connection to a recent home invasion in the West Landivar area that has left a family deprived of over 0,000 in valuables, including cash and a vehicle. Egbert “Jack” Vernon, a 36-year-old mechanic, was arraigned before Magistrate Khadeen Palmer on a charge of aggravated burglary.

The allegations are that on Thursday, August 23, 2018, he entered the home of Raymond Kearney, at #5807 University Drive, and stole over $100,000 in items belonging to three separate victims including the home owner.

While no plea could be taken from Vernon, bail could not be granted because the burglary was allegedly committed with the use of a firearm. He was given the opportunity to give a special reason as to why he should be granted bail. According to Vernon, he is the father of two children and is innocent of the crime. He also said that the police took a picture of him and held an ID parade without his permission. Despite his reasons, Magistrate Palmer denied him bail. He was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until October 31, 2018.
