The Benque Viejo Zone 4 Neighborhood Watch Summer Camp program was recently held for the 11th year.  As is traditional, the camp was again held at Sam’s Community Park, which is centrally located in Benque Viejo.

Captain Samuel Bruce and Quadrant leader Mrs. Isela Tesucum had begun months ago to prepare for this special event for the Zone 4 area children. Mr. Bruce located sponsors and gathered materials and food items. Also assisting in coordinating was Corporal Josh McKoy, the Benque Community Policing Commander.  Mr. Ricky Cunil and Amram Lemo from the Department of Youth Services assisted as well.

For this year’s summer camp, the children enjoyed a well rounded summer camp.  There were beautiful arts and crafts organized by instructor Mrs. Isela Tesucum and assistant Vibiano Sandoval. The sports, games, and educational programs were conducted by Cpl. Josh McKoy, an internationally qualified trainer of the Gang Resistance Education and Training GREAT Program. Also assisting the school age children on drug abuse and gangs was WPC. Michelle Coleman.  (Assistant teacher Vibiano Sandoval shared his personal experience of a motorcycle accident due to alcohol consumption.)

The children were served with nutritious snacks and juice daily. At their graduation dinner, a special of delicious chicken and rice and beans was prepared by Criselda Diaz and Mart Raix. In the graduation ceremony, Mrs. Isela Tesucum thanked all the children for participating in this year’s summer camp, and invited them to attend next year. Mrs. Tesecum gave special recognition to the Zone Captain Mr. Samuel Bruce for all his efforts to keep the program a success for the 11th year.  In her closing, she thanked Cpl. McKoy for his contribution to the summer camp, as well as the Department of Youth Services and Ministry of Health for participating this year.

Mr. Samuel Bruce gave recognition to the professionals from Ministry of Health that added their expertise to the children’s program.
