New Year Honours Conferred on 8 Belizeans Print E-mail

On Monday, October 1, 2018, eight Belizeans received New Year’s Honours. The Governor General of Belize, H.E. Sir Colville Young, conferred the honors to the eight Belizeans, 6 men and 2 women, on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the Belize House in Belmopan.

Douglas Singh received the highest honor of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) for his contributions to Commerce and Industry and Community Leadership. Dinesh Bhojwani and Mr. John Longsworth both received Ordinary Officer of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire; Bhojwani, for his contribution to Commerce and Industry and Community Leadership, and Longsworth, for his contribution to Public Service.

Receiving the honor of Ordinary Members of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire were Kin Yin Cheng, better known as Armando Chang, for contribution to Business and Community Service; Manuel Cowo for contribution to Community and Religion; Jeaneane Vanessa Neal and Joel Westby for contribution to Education and Community; and Marilyn Williams, (J.D., R.N.) for contribution to Public Service and the Legal Fraternity.

The New Year Honours are conferred to citizens of Commonwealth territories in recognition of their good work and contributions to their home countries.
