The blood banks in both Belize City and Belmopan are in need of blood. A campaign has now started in order to encourage citizens and organizations to donate blood.

Dr. Javier Zuniga, Western Regional Health Manager, informs the Guardian that he is encouraging organizations and persons to come in to donate the life giving fluid, given that the blood banks are in need.

“We have been faced with shortages of blood in the blood bank, but not only here (Belmopan) but in Belize City as well.”

There is a criteria in accepting blood from donors. It is hoped that the public responds adequately and in due course in the call for more blood at our blood banks.

Individuals wishing to donate to the Belmopan Blood Bank can enquire at the Western Regional Hospital. Contact with Jose Guerra, Laboratory Supervisor,  can be made by calling 802-0501 or 828-4520.
