The San Ignacio Police Formation has recently communicated with the Cayo Neighborhood Watch Association, giving them thanks for having had a close working partnership in 2018. The Cayo-based police formation now looks positively to the challenges ahead in 2019.

According to the Police release, the San Ignacio Police Formation is the largest formation in the entire Country, providing policing services to the Twin Towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena in addition to 38 surrounding villages.

“I am happy to report to you all that in 2018 we managed to reduce murder by 60%, a percentage decrease that is comparable to 2002,” reports Superintendent Richard Anthony Rosado, Officer in Charge of the San Ignacio Police Formation, who now becomes the longest serving Officer in Charge of that jurisdiction.

“Our jurisdiction also saw major crimes reduce by 18%, when compared to the previous year.”

Such feats are attributable through the formation’s policing plan for the jurisdiction, a close relationship with the community and tenacity of formation personnel. Experts within the police say that policing is evolving and underpins Belize’s ability to achieve social and economic development.

“It is important that we develop an appreciation and be cognizant that it will take a collective effort on the part of everyone to address crime,” says Rosado.
