The Belize City Softball Association Women’s competition continued over the weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Sunday 12th May, in the game played between Beacon and the defending champions Digi, Beacon prevailed in the 3-2 win for its third consecutive win of the young season.

Beacon’s Head Coach Eric Vasquez, employed the pitching skills of Janel Smith, instead of his regular hurler Lanisha Jones. Smith was able to keep the Digi batters off balance in her seven innings of work while hurling her team to the win.

Beacon batting in the bottom of the 1st inning scored all 3 runs when 2 batters reached base via the base-on-balls and then scored on a run producing single by Agnes Lucas.

Meanwhile, Digi scored its 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning when with one out Erlene Belisle single and she was driven home by Lydia Cacho’s run producing triple. Cacho then scored on second baseman Carrisia Clarke’s single.

On the line for Beacon was 3 runs on 3 hits and for Digi 2 runs on 9 hits. The winning pitcher was Janel Smith who struck out 5 batters in leading her team to the win. Meanwhile, the losing pitcher was Jasany Westby.

Meanwhile, the second game played on Friday 10th May, featured Panthers against Beacon. In this game, Beacon defeated Panthers by the score of 18-6 in 5 innings. Beacon batting in the bottom of the 1st inning scored 1 run, then added another 2 runs in the 2nd inning and then 4 more runs in the 3rd inning. Panthers managed to score 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning to cut the deficit by 5 runs.  In the top of the 4th inning, and with Beacon leading by the score of 7-2, Head Coach Eric Vasquez relieved his starter and winning pitcher Lanisha Jones in favour of his second-string pitcher Janel Smith.

Smith appearing in her first game of the 2019 senior campaign give up a single run to Panthers in the 4th inning to bring the score to 7-3. Beacon batting in the bottom of the 4th inning exploded for 11 runs on 9 hits which included a number of extra bases. Smith in the top of the 5th inning gave up 3 more runs to the Panthers bats.

Beacon scored 18 runs on 16 hits, 2 walks and 4 hit by pitch. Meanwhile, Panthers scored 10 runs on 10 hits. The winning pitcher was Lanisha Jones who gave up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 batters in the process. Jones’ relieved pitcher Janel Smith gave up 4 runs on 5 hits. The losing pitcher was Sherraine Westby.
