The 2019 Rising Entrepreneurship Gala is drawing near and young persons with a knack for business, particularly single mothers between the ages of 18 and 28, are being called to come forward. Samos Consulting has teamed up with the Department of Youth Services (DYS) to host the 2019 Entrepreneurship Gala which seeks to help young people get the capital they need to start their business.

The gala is held every two years and in 2017, its first year, Samos Consulting took on the task themselves. They reached out to young entrepreneurs with great business ideas and one person, Salim Hoy, was chosen for that year’s gala. He received $6,000 and now, has made a success out of his scubble business. For this year’s gala, Samos Consulting has teamed up with DYS in an effort to have a greater reach and to work in tandem with DYS’s portfolio.

Deadline for applications is August 1, 2019 and should be dropped off at the DYS Office on Regent Street in Belize City. Interested persons can submit applications for themselves or persons can do so on behalf of others fitting the criteria. From all the applications, five persons will be chosen and trained by Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) on how to pitch their business idea. Those persons will present their pitch to a panel which will then select one final person.

The gala will be held on November 23, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at the Biltmore Plaza and a contribution of $100 is being charged, $50 goes toward a meal, wine, and entertainment, and the remainder goes directly toward the young mother’s fund. Their goal is to raise upwards of $8,000 for this year’s selected single-mother entrepreneur. Crystal Samos, Director at Samos Consulting and Renata Samuels, Communications Officer at DYS, both say that a focus is being put on young single mothers this year “because of all the violence that has been going on in our country. We do believe that financial freedom is the way for these mothers to get out of these abusive relationships and so forth.”
