Placencia Tourism Police Unit.New Tourism Police Unit in place in Placencia thanks to Belize Tourism Board A special meeting was held in Placencia on May 13, 2011, between the Belize Tourism Board’s (BTB) Coordinator of Enforcement – Andrew Longsworth, Head of the Tourism Police Unit (TPU) – Inspector Castellanos, members of the Placencia Village Council, Placencia BTIA and special constables to talk about the TPU and the crime situation of the Placencia peninsula.

After a frank and fruitful discussion Mr. Longsworth and Inspector Castellanos made bold steps to provide the growing tourism community with the support it desperately needs.  Placencia now has a Tourism Police office situated at the Placencia Police Station!  Joining TPU Jose Sanchez to man the TPU office are TPU Alford Castillo, TPU Ralford Castillo, and TPU Jose Morales.

The BTB also deployed two motorcycles to the Placencia TPU, one of which replaces the 4-wheeler that had been assigned to this area.  The placement of these two cycles is ideal for the officers to patrol the newly paved Placencia Peninsula road as well as allow the unit to respond in an efficient manner in case of need.    The Placencia BTIA will be contributing to the TPU with motorcycle instruction, maintenance, supplies and labor for upkeep.  The new building shell was donated by Yearwood Properties, relocated to the police station by AL Construction, and completed through the assistance of Martin Galvez.  The complete refurbishment of the building was also funded by the BTB.

The communities of the peninsula thank the BTB, Mr. Longsworth, and Inspector Castellanos for recognizing the need for the expansion of the TPU here in Placencia!   For more information on this please contact the Placencia Tourism Center at 523-4045
