Maurice UserMaurice Usher, 21, a resident of Fabers Road Extension, got into a very serious motorcycle accident on Friday July 8th, at around 6 p.m. between mile 3 and 4 on the Western Highway. Since the accident he had been at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital fighting for his life, but he succumbed to his extensive injuries early on Tuesday morning, July 12th.

Witnesses say that Usher was riding his motorcycle, with his cousin, Nigel Williams, 20, on the back. They were heading toward Belize City when they came up on Efrain Martinez, 47, riding his bicycle on the same side of the road. Details remain sketchy, but Usher tried to swerve to avoid hitting Martinez’s bicycle.

The instant that Usher made to avoid the collision was too late; he ended up slamming into the back of Martinez’s bike. As a result Williams, Usher, and Martinez all ended up injured and unconscious due to the accident; all three men were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Williams received abrasions to his face and his left arm and left leg; Martinez received injuries to his shoulders and to his left leg. Usher’s injuries were more extensive. He received abrasions all over his body, but the injury which would become fatal was his fractured skull.

Usher’s death comes as a stabbing blow to his family; His mother, Delia Lewis, has lost two sons on her two most recent birthdays. Marquis Malher, 8, Usher’s younger brother was gunned down on July 9, 2010, a day away from Lewis’ birthday, and Usher succumbed to his injuries two days after her birthday this year.
