During one of the largest drug bust in Belize’s history, police officers Renel Grant, Lawrence Humes, Jacinto Roches and Mark Middleton were charged along with boat captain Harold Usher for abetment to the crime of importation of drugs.

Since then the men have been in prison on remand. A bail application was heard before justice Herbert Lord on Wednesday, July 20th, and it was granted with conditions that they surrender all travel documents immediately and that they report to the Belmopan Police Station every Monday and Friday until the case is tried. In the case of Usher, he is to report to the Punta Gorda Police Station. In the DPP’s affidavit she had no objection to bail since the men are no longer flight risks. Before deciding not to object to bail she reached out to the Commissioner of police to find out if the department had any reason to object. None was given. The men were granted and met bail in the sum of $50,000 plus one surety of the same amount.

The men are due back in court on November 8 of this year at the November session of the Supreme Court. The DPP also indicated to the court that the men were wanted for extradition.
