Derrick Sanchez, 22,and a resident of the Ladyville area appeared in Court #6 before Senior Magistrate Dorothy Flowers in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with kidnapping.

In Court, Sanchez was unrepresented and no plea was taken from him.  The Magistrate explained to him that kidnapping is an indictable crime for which she cannot take a plea and told him that the matter will go through a Preliminary Inquiry and if there is sufficient evidence, the matter will be committed to the Supreme Court for trial. That is where a plea will be taken from him.  She also explained to him that the Magistrate’s court cannot grant bail for the offense until after 90 days so he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
