A couple, one from Belize City the other from Belmopan were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where they were charge jointly with one count each of handling stolen goods.

40-year-old Warren Allen Logan, a laborer who lives at 2 ½ Mile on the Western Highway, along with his common-law-wife, 36-year-old Stephanie Hemsley, a Domestic from Belmopan City appeared in Court #4 before Magistrate Roberto Ordonez where they were read a single charge of handling stolen goods. They were charged after they were allegedly found in possession of stolen items which were taken from the home of Josephine Waller, a resident of 2 ½ Miles on the Western Highway.

Stolen from inside Waller’s home was a black Sony DVD Player, a white and blue iron and assorted DVDs.

In a report Waller told police that sometime between the hours of 10:00 a.m., on July 13th and 9:00 a.m., on July 31st, her home was burglarized and stolen were the above mentioned items.

In court, Logan pleaded guilty to the charge and told the magistrate that his wife had no knowledge of the items being at his home as she had just arrived at home on a visit from Belmopan to spend time with him and their children.

Logan also told the magistrate that the iron was found at a junk yard where he worked so he was puzzled as to how they are saying it is a stolen item from Waller’s home. Nevertheless, he pleaded guilty because he claimed he has children to take care. For the guilty plea, Magistrate Ordonez told Logan that he has a conviction for dishonestly from 2000 for theft. This makes it his second conviction and while he was facing 5 years for handling stolen goods, he was not sent to jail, instead, he was fined $750 which he has to pay by September 10th of this year in default 8 months imprisonment.
