There was a big game at the Belize City Center on Friday, August 19th. Hundreds of Belizeans crowded the Civic to enjoy a semi-final match between the Belize Bank Bulldogs and Alamilla’s Furniture/ Ministry of Education. However, one man in particular had something in mind other than watching basketball.

The suspicious behavior of a teenager drew the attention of a police constable on special duty at the Civic. The Constable searched the young man and found a black 9mm Beretta tucked in his pants pocket. The teenager was later identified as 19-year-old Felipe Novelo Jr. He was arrested and charged for keeping a firearm and ammunition without a license.

On Monday Novelo appeared in the Magistrate's Court; pled guilty to both charges and was sentenced to 5 years on each count.
