Diane Haylock, Kim Simpliss Barrow and Seleni Matus, Director of BTB.Belize City, Belize – September 6, 2011
The Wife of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, in association with and the National Celebrations Commission and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), officially announces the intrepid execution of the first-ever Street Décor Initiative as a part of this year’s September Celebrations.

As we celebrate our country’s 30th year of Independence and the 213th Anniversary of the Battle of St. George’s Caye, the Street Décor Initiative is intended to boost up the streets of Belize. With strategic decorations lining the Road leading to the Philip Goldson International Airport, the Haulover Bridge and the main parade routes in Belize City, this initiative provides a warm welcoming ambiance for those visiting during the month of September.  In addition to the September-Celebration focus, the landscaping element of the program is designed to permanently beautify the streets of Belize City, going well beyond the month of September.

To date, we are proud to announce some of the upgrades that are in process and will be completed before the ending of this week. These improvements are listed below:

Flags on the overpass
60 flags bordering the road leading to the Philip Goldson International Airport
Painting and lighting of the Haulover bridge in the patriotic colors
Palms trees on the Northern Highway
Additional landscaping, including the planting of Royal Palm Trees, at Memorial Park
Gateways with flag banners on Marine Parade and Central American Boulevard

In an effort to make this project a huge success, several businesses and organizations partnered with the National Celebrations Commission and BTB as we all worked towards honoring this historic milestone. At present, Mrs. Barrow and the Committee would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Embassy of China (Taiwan), The Fort George Tourism Village, Benny’s Home Center, the Belize Airport Concession Company, Brothers Habet, Belize Telemedia Ltd., Belize Electricity Limited, Belize Natural Energy (BNE) Trust, and our secondary sponsor of James Brodies and Co.

We invite everyone to look out for the street beautification developments that have commenced already, and should you have any questions or require any update/interviews on this year’s Street Décor Initiative, please feel free to contact Ms. Christy Mastry at 223-2654, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
