Ellis MeighanPolice have arrested and charged 19 year old Ellis Meighan Jr., a resident of #27 Banak Street in Belize City. Meighan appeared in Magistrate’s Court on Monday September 5th before Magistrate Edd Usher where he was read a single charge of escape from lawful custody.

On Friday, September 2nd, police say they spotted Meighan Jr., in the vicinity of Gwen Lizarraga High school where police say he was acting suspiciously. They set chase after him as he jumped over the Gwen Lizarraga High School fence having the officer who was chasing him fire a shot in the air.

It was through the intervention of an employee of the school that police managed to apprehend Meighan. Police then took him into a police mobile but somehow Meighan manage to escape while inside the vehicle. Over the weekend Meighan was picked up in the city and escorted to the Queen Street Police Station where he was charged.

He appeared in court represented by Attorney Kareem Musa. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was offered bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount.

Ellis Meighan Jr., is the son of Ellis Meighan Sr., who was gunned down at the corner of Banak Street and Central American Boulevard during the month of September some years ago. 

Meighan Jr., has several charges pending before the court both in Magistrate’s Court and Family Court when he was a minor.

Ellis Meighan Jr., is due back in Court #2 on October 31st where his case is pending a trial.
