H.E. Dinesh Kumar JainIndia’s High Commissioner to Belize H.E. Dinesh Kumar Jain visited Belize on the occasion of our 30th anniversary. The Guardian newspaper spoke to H.E. Jain who explained that since his appointment he’s been working at improving relations with Belize. Currently both countries are in the process of exploring  ways in which India can assist Belize.  Jain said he met with Foreign Minister, Hon. Wilfred Elrington and Minister of Police, Douglas Singh to look at areas of cooperation. Already there are several ideas that the countries are working on.

Included in these areas is the possible assistance that India can offer in setting up a pathological laboratory as well as the possibility of supplying pharmaceuticals which are far cheaper and are of higher quality than anywhere else in the world. H.E. Jain also broached the possibility of Belize accessing financing from India to the tune of 10 million dollars as a soft loan which has been on offer to Belize and which is currently being considered by government.

While High Commissioner Jain was in Belize he took time out to express his well wishes for the nation. He explained that India has a great deal of empathy for Belize being the only English speaking country in the Central American region. He added that while there hasn’t been much contact between the two countries because of geographical distance his wishes are that the countries develop stronger ties. These he said can be done through delegation visits, economic cooperation and increase of investment from India. Already the High Commissioner says he is working on promoting business people to meet through business delegations from one country to another.

H.E. Jain concluded by wishing Belize all the best, he said that “30 years is not a long time in a country’s life but it is also not a short time. It means that more than a generation has changed and Belize has already had many achievements to its credit.”
