Dean CrawfordOn Sunday October 2nd another prison officer was caught when he allegedly tried to smuggle weed into the Kolbe Foundation located at the Belize Central Prison. 32-year-old Prison officer, Dean Crawford, is now on interdiction pending the outcome of his criminal case.

Crawford appeared in Court #6 before Magistrate Dorothy Flowers where he was read a single charge of drug trafficking.

Allegations are that on Sunday, October 2nd, he was caught inside the prison in possession of 100 grams of marijuana.

Crawford who was unrepresented in court pleaded not guilty to the charge. There was no objection to bail and Magistrate Flowers granted him bail in the sum of $4,000 plus one surety of the same amount which he met. He is due back in Court #2 on November 11th.

The last prison officer to be convicted of drug trafficking was Wilford Broaster, 37, who was convicted on September 8 of this year.  He was fined the maximum penalty of $10,000 in default 3 years imprisonment.
