EdwardEdward Usher, 42, who was caught burglarizing Bombay Cool Spot in in Hattieville Village was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of burglary.

On Friday, November  11th, Usher appeared before Magistrate Roberto Ordonez where he told the court that, “he needed to go to jail because he needs rehab”   Usher pleaded guilty to burglarizing the business place of Glenford Jemmoth, located at mile 15 ½ on the Western Highway. The burglary occurred between Wednesday November 9th where $716.00 worth of liquor, chips, cigarettes and two dominoes set were stolen. On the night of November 9that about 7:00 p.m., proprietor, Glenford Jemmoth visited his bar and found out that it had been burgled.  He reported to police that on the day before, November 8, at about 1:30 p.m., he had secured his establishment and left for home.   The next day when he arrived, he saw that a board located at the western end of the building had been removed and inside the store he noticed several items missing. Police also received reports from eyewitnesses who saw Usher committing the burglary.

Magistrate Ordonez sentenced Usher to 10 years behind bars. When he heard the sentenced at first he laughed and asked if the sentence is to run concurrently or consecutively.  Magistrate Ordonez told him that the sentence is to run consecutively and that’s when he appeared even more surprised. According to Usher, all the items listed on the charge sheet were not inside the store, but he admitted that he has been a drug addict for the past ten years.  He said that he would steal and although he knows that someone has seen him committing the crime he did not care.

Usher, has as many as 6 previous convictions for crimes of dishonesty.
