TaiwaneseOn Wednesday November 16th, the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Technical Mission of the Republic of China Taiwan (ROC) launched a video on how to produce hybrid guavas in Belize. The launching was held at the University of Belize Central Farm Campus, in the Cayo District.

Present at the event was His Excellency David Wu, the Taiwan Ambassador to Belize, the Minister of Agriculture the Hon. Rene Montero, officers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Farmers and other invited guests.

The objective of the event was to promote the nutritional value of guavas and the requirements for its production. The video will serve as a tool for people, who want to venture into commercializing guava for the local and export market.

Taiwanese guava was introduced into Belize over ten years ago by Taiwanese immigrants. This fruit is rich in Vitamin A, B and C. Through successes by the Taiwanese immigrants, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Taiwan Technical Mission merged together to produce a documentary and training manual for farmers, who are interested in acquiring the skills to promote this fruit crop.
