Belmopan, 29th November, 2011.
The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Belize National Meteorological Service, held its first Belizean Farmers Forum in the Orange Walk district.

This forum was held under the Caribbean Agro-Meteorological Initiative Regional Project.

The objective is to assist the farming community by increasing and sustaining the agricultural productivity at the farm level in the region through improved application of weather and climate information using an integrated and coordinated approach.

Present at the forum were: Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Gabino Canto; Mr. Frank Tench Jr. from the Belize Meteorological Service; representatives from the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology, farmers and other invited guests.

The forum covered ways of promoting a better understanding of the application of weather and climate information and also obtained feedback to provide better products from the meteorological services to the farming community.

The forum ended on 30th of November 2011 with a similar exercise in the Stann Creek District.
