Avengers win again in junior softball Print E-mail

The Belize City Junior Girls’ Softball Competition continued on Saturday March 3, 2012, at Rogers Stadium in Belize City.

In the first game of the double header, defending champions Avengers won its second consecutive game of the young competition when it rallied from an early 7-2 deficit to defeat Hurricanes Junior by the score of 15-7.

Hurricanes Juniors batting in the top of the inning scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively and then added 3 in the 3rd inning and 2 more in the 4th inning. It collected a total of 4 hits off the pitching of Kaylee McFadzean.

Meanwhile,  Avengers scored a single run in the 1st inning, and then exploded for 14 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. This onslaught was keyed by centre fielder Arneek Baptist’s three-run homer. The Avengers collected a total of 7 hits off the combined pitching of Rebecca Nicholson, Sasha Brown and Melissa Williams.

In game two, Blazers Juniors also edged the Hurricanes Juniors by the score of 13-12 in 7 innings. Hurricanes Juniors scored 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning, 2 in the 3rd inning, 3 in the 4th , and 2 in the 6th inning. It collected a total of 11 hits off the combined pitching of Ashley Lucas and Agnes Lucas who had to relief her younger sibling.

The Blazers Juniors scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, 2 in the 2nd, and 5 in the 3rd inning. It collected a total of 9 hits off the combined pitching of Briana Ara and Rebecca Nicholson.

The competition will continue on March 24th with two more games on the schedule.
