NoemiAt least four UDP supporters have been officially terminated as a result in the change of administration at the Orange Walk Town Hall.

Cousins Carla Wright, 38, and Noemi Mendez Wright, 34, were given the axe yesterday and in a formal letter signed by the Mayor, they were both informed that their services at the Town Hall will no longer be needed.

Carla and Noemi are strong UDP supports and had been hired in 2006 under the UDP administration. They believe that they were fired purely because of their political affiliation.

According to Carla and Noemi, they were never informed about their termination by the Mayor; instead, he sent his secretary.

Noemi, the mother of one child, told us on Friday evening, she went to the Town Hall office at around 6:00 in the morning and asked the Mayor if she would be reporting still at 6:00 a.m. for work.

In response the Mayor told her that he would call her, but Noemi said he never did. On Tuesday, though, when Noemi reported for work, she found a man doing her job.

Noemi asked to speak with the Mayor, which she did at around 10:00 that morning. Noemi said she asked him why had she been replaced and why hadn’t she received her letter notifying her about the termination.

All the Mayor had to say was that that letter was going to be given to her.

Noemi has collected $406.80.

As for Carla, the mother of five, she said that she had the gut feeling that the termination was coming and so she was not planning to return to work, because she doesn’t want to work under the Mayor and his Administration. All she wanted was compensation for her hard work.
The women feel they have been victimized by the PUP in a democratic country and said they will seek help for the injustice that has been done to them.
