Police United and FC Belize maintain Leads in Premier League Print E-mail

FC Belize on the attackThe Premier League of Belize Football Competition continued over the last weekend with six games across the country.

On Saturday, March 24, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the visiting San Pedro Seadogs defeated World FC by the score of 3-2. The goal scorers for the San Pedro Seadogs were Kent Gabourel in the 39th minutes of play and Francisco Mejia in the 45th and 70th minute of play. Meanwhile, the goal scorers for World FC were Carlos Vasquez in the 35th minute of play and Richard Carrillo in the 68th minute of play.

At the Isidorio Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Belmopan Bandits and San Ignacio United FC played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for the Belmopan Bandits was scored by Jacinto Bermudez in the 40th minute of play, while the goal for San Ignacio United FC was scored by Amin August in the 41st minute of play.

Meanwhile, at the MCC Grounds here in Belize City, Police United continued on its winning streak when it edged the visiting Paradise/Freedom Fighters by the score of 2-1. The visiting Paradise/Freedom Fighters were the first to get on the scoreboard when Delroy Flores scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 30th minute of play for a temporary lead. However, that lead was short- lived when Evan Mariano scored the first of his two goals in the 45th minute of play to put the Police United Squad on the scoreboard.

In the second half of the game, Evan Mariano broke the 1-1 stalemate when he was able to penetrate the Paradise/Freedom Frighters defence and launched his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute of play for the big victory. With that win, the Police United team sits at the top of the standings with a comfortable lead and a place in the next round of the competition.

In the final game of the day played out at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo Town, Placencia Assassins blanked the home team, Hankook Verdes by the score of 2-0. The goal scorers for Placencia Assassins were Gary Young in the 50th minute of play and Rollin Burgess in the 57th minute of play.

The competition continued on Sunday March 25, with two more games. At the MCC Grounds, FC Belize blanked FC San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Jermmy Bermudez in the 90th minute of the game.

And in the second game of the day played at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town, the Belize Defence Force also blanked Juventus by the score of 1-0. The goal for the Belize Defence Force was scored by Richard Jimenez in the 65th minute of play.
