Security Forces maintain Lead in Football Competition Print E-mail

David Trapp scored the equalizing goal for BDFThe Premier League of Belize concluded week eight of its on-going football competition on Sunday April 1, 2012, with no surprises in the games played. The official standings clearly show that the Security Forces (the Police Department) and (the Belize Defence Force) are sitting comfortable at the top of the standings.


On Saturday March 31, at the game played out at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the defending champions the Belize Defence Force edged the visiting FC San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 2-1 to maintain its lead in Zone A. The visiting FC San Felipe Barcelona was the first to get on the scoreboard when Jaziz Wicab scored the 1st goal of the game in the 4th minute of play to give his team a temporary lead.

The first half of the game ended 1-0 in favour of the visiting FC San Felipe Barcelona.

The defending champions, the Belize Defence Force was finally able to get on the scoreboard when David Trapp scored his team’s equalizing goal in the 48th minute of play via a penalty kick. The game remained a stalemate for most past until Erwin Flores scored his team’s 2nd and final goal in the 90th minute of play to give the defending champions the 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, at the MCC Grounds here in Belize City, the league-leading Police United continued on its winning path when it blanked the visiting Belmopan Bandits by the score of 3-0. The goals for Police United were scored by Lennox Castillo in the 6th minute of play, and Trevor Lennon in the 53rd and 89th minutes respectively.

The competition then continued on Sunday April 1 with 4 more games across the country. At the San Pedro Municipal Stadium in San Pedro Town, the visiting FC Belize and the host team the San Pedro Seadogs played to a 0-0 draw.

At the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town, Juventus blanked World FC by the score of 3-0. The goals for Juventus were scored by Freddy Tun in the 57th minute of play, Ernell Pott in the 83rd minute of play, and Dean Flowers in the 86th minute of play.

Meanwhile, out at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, San Ignacio United FC edged its next door neighbours, Hankook Verdes, by the score of 2-1. The host team San Ignacio United got on the scoreboard first when Victor Morales scored the 1st goal of the game in the 39th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was taken well into the 2nd half of the game, when Ismael Thompson scored his team’s 2nd and final goal of the game in the 59th minute of play for a 2-0 lead.

However, Hankook Verdes was able to cut the deficit in half when Miguel Aguilar scored his team’s only goal in the 77th minute of play.    

While out at the Toledo Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, Paradise Freedom Fighters and the Placencia Assassins played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for the Paradise Freedom Fighters was scored by Tarrell Flores in the 78th minute of play while the goal for the visiting Placencia Assassins was scored by Rollin Burgess.
