Police United and the Belize Defence Force stays at the Top of the Standings Print E-mail

Deon McCauley scored the Belize Defence Force’s only goal against FC BelizeThe Premier League of Belize concluded its ninth round of competition with six games played across the country.

On Holy Thursday, April 5, out at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, the host team Hankook Verdes blasted the visiting Paradise/Freedom Fighters by the score of 7-1. The goal scorers for the home team, Hankook Verdes,were Julio Ayala in the 5th and 32nd minutes of play; Julian Maldonado in the 10th, 20th, 68th, 90th +3 minutes of play and Jose Monroy in the 25th minute of play. For Paradise/Freedom Fighters, the goal scorer was Leonard Valdez in the 54th minute of play.

The competition then continued on Saturday April 7, with two games on the schedule. At the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the league-leading Police United won over San Ignacio United by the score of 3-1. The host team San Ignacio United FC got on the scoreboard first when Victor Morales scored his team’s only goal in the 2nd minute of play.

For Police United, the goal scorers were Andres Makin in the 45th minute of play; Trevor Lennon in the 63rd minute of play; and Lennox Castillo in the 72nd minute of play. With this win, the Police United squad maintaines a dominant lead at the top of the standings.

In the second game of the evening played out at the Placencia Football Field, the host team, Placencia Assassins, won over the Belmopan Bandits by the score of 3-1. The goal scorers for the Placencia Assassins were Luis Torres in the 57th minute of play; Ernie Whyte in the 63rd minute of play and Ashley Torres in the 72nd minute of play. Meanwhile, the only goal of the game for the Belmopan Bandits was scored by Ronaldo Alvarez in the 88th minute of play.

On Sunday April 8, at the San Pedro Municipal Stadium, the home team San Pedro Seadogs blasted the visiting Juventus by the score of 6-0. The goals for the San Pedro Seadogs were scored by Jesse Smith in the 2nd, 12th, and 31st minutes of play; Francisco Mejia in the 16th minute of play; Ethnie Figueroa in the 21st minute of play and Kenny Witzil in the 89th minute of play.

Meanwhile, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the Belize Defence Force also blanked the visiting FC Belize by the score of 1-0. Deon McCaulay scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute of play to give his team the victory.

At the San Felipe Football Field, it was the home team, San Felipe Barcelona edging out World FC by the score of 3-2. The San Felipe Barcelona squad got on the scoreboard first when Eliazar Itza scored the 1st goal of the game in the 3rd minute of play to give his team an early 1-0 lead. However, the visiting World FC was able to get on the board when Carlos Vasquez scored the equalizing goal in the 21st minute.  Christopher Hendricks gave the San Felipe Barcelona a 2-1 lead when he was able to score in the 29th minute. The lead was further increased when Javier Habet scored an another goal in the 42nd minute of play that gave the San Felipe Barcelona the 3-1 victory. The first half of the game ended 3-1 in favour of the home team San Felipe Barcelona.

In the second half of the game, the visiting World FC was able to cut the deficit in half, when Javier Habet scored his team’s final goal of the game in the 63rd minute of play.
