Lanisha Jones suffer heartbreak 3-2 loss to TelemediaThe 78th Belize City Senior Women’s Softball Competition opened on Wednesday April 11, 2012, at Rogers Stadium, the home of softball in Belize.

On Monday April 16, newly crowned marathon champions Mirage Lady Rebels blasted the Hurricanes by the score of 19 to 1 in four innings. The Hurricanes, behind the pitching of Kira Arnold, was able to hold the big bats of Mirage Lady Rebels for 2 1/3 innings before it erupted for 11 runs in the top of the 3rd inning.

Mirage Lady Rebels then added another 8 runs in the top of the 4th inning for the win. The performance of Hurricanes young pitcher Kira Arnold was not reflected in the score as her teammates committed an astounding 5 errors behind her in her pitching debut.  Arnold was also beset by her own wildness and inexperience. She did walk 9 batters, hit two, struck out 5 and gave up 11 hits in the process.

The winning pitcher for Mirage Lady Rebels was Lisa Jones, who gave up a single to second baseman Chenelle James.

The competition continued on Sunday April 15, between defending champions Telemedia and Orchid Blazers. Telemedia had the upper hand over Orchid Blazers when it defeated them by the score of 11-1 in four innings. Telemedia scored its 11 runs on 15 hits including 2 extra base hits. The Telemedia’s offence was keyed by centre field Lydia Cacho, who went 3 for 3 at the plate including a double in the top of the 2nd inning.

Meanwhile, Orchid Blazers scored its only run of the game on 3 hits.

The winning pitcher was Mary Flowers and the losing pitcher was Nicole Arnold.

On Friday April 13, Telemedia opened its defence of its Belize City Title on the right foot when it edged Mirage Lady Rebels by the score of 3-2.  Telemedia scored all 3 runs on 7 hits. The key blow for Telemedia was right fielder Barbara Cadle’s run producing double in the bottom of the 3rd inning that allowed centre fielder Lydia Cacho, who had doubled earlier to open the inning. Cadle later scored on pitcher Mary Flowers’ run producing single in the same inning.

Meanwhile, Mirage Lady Rebels scored single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings respectively. After one batter was out in the top of the 3rd inning, Mary Flowers walked second baseman Mertell Bailey, who then advanced on shortstop Sherette Vernon’s infield hit and later scored on third baseman Lisa Jones’ run producing single.

Mirage Lady Rebels batting in the top of the 4th inning then tied the score at 2-2 when left-fielder Aludy Arthurs’ double to left field off Telemedia’s starter and winner Mary Flowers to opened the inning. Arthurs then scored on second baseman Vanessa Dawson’s infield hit to the short stop.

Telemedia scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the 5th inning when Mary Flowers’ single to right field opened the inning. Flowers later advanced to second base on catcher Ruth Lamb’s infield single to the shortstop and then scored on third baseman Martha Rhys’ single to right field.

On the line for Telemedia, it was 3 runs on 7 hits and for Mirage Lady Rebels, it was 2 runs on 11 hits. The winning pitcher was Mary Flowers and the losing pitcher was Lanisha Jones.
