Ervin ReneauErvin Reneau appeared in Magistrate's Court on Wednesday May 16th where he was committed to stand trial for the November 30, 2010 double murder of David Longsworth and Security Guard, Edgar Ayala.

Reneau will have to appear in the Supreme Court where he is to answer to nine counts including two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, the use of deadly means of harm, harm and keping prohibited firearm.

Reneau learnt of his fate at the conclusion of his preliminary inquiry into the double murder of the men who were both shot and killed during a robbery at a Texaco Gas Station on the Northern Highway in Belize City.

The Preliminary Inquiry  concluded when the Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer told Reneau that she has read over 23 statements brought before the court and she found that there was sufficient evidence to commit the matter to the Supreme Court. In court, Reneau, who was unrepresented was asked if when he went through his disclosure he saw any evidence linking him to the double murder and he said, “No.”  That was not the view of the Senior Magistrate, Sharon Frazer, who informed him that in the first statement that she read of a witness, his name was called and identified as the gunman who committed the crime.    The police prosecutor tendered into evidence as many as 25 witness statements into evidence. Also tendered were photos of the scene and CD’s which contain surveillance footage along with still pictures and a gun box, which contains the allege gun used in the crime.

Reneau’s case was committed to stand trial at the September session of  the Supreme Court set to begin on September 17.  The charges he will have to answer to are two counts of murder for the death of David Longsworth and Edgar Ayala. Reneau will also have to answer to four counts of attempted murder for attempts on the lives of Ezra Barnett, Antonio Medina, Ursula Longsworth and William Henry.  One count of the use of deadly means of harm upon Ursula Longsworth and one count of harm upon her as well.  An additional charge of keeping prohibited firearm, for a 9 mm pistol he was found with on December 1, 2010.
