Gareth HemmansOn Wednesday, May 16th, 26-year-old Gareth Hemmans Jr., a caterer, appeared in Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with the attempted murder of 40-year-old Miguel Zaiden.

On Tuesday, May 1, at about 8:50 p.m., police visited the KHMH where they found Zaiden with chop wounds to his left and right arm, right forearm and left elbow.  Their investigation into the incident revealed that on that night, Hemmans and Zaiden were socializing on Madam Liz Avenue, when  they got into an argument an as a result, Hemmans grabbed a machete and inflicted chop wounds to Zaiden.    As a result of the injuries, Zaiden had to be hospitalized. Police investigation led them to arrest Hemmans.  No motive has been established for the chopping

Hemmans appeared in Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with one count of attempted murder, the use of deadly means of harm and grievous harm upon 40-year-old Miguel Zaiden. No plea was taken and due to the nature of the offenses, Hemmans was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 15.
