Man accused of Armed Robbery and Possession of Prohibited Ammunition Print E-mail

Ian HaylockOn Monday,  June 11,  23-year-old Ian Haylock appeared before Senior Magistrate, Sharon Frazer in Magistrate's Court where he was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and keeping prohibited ammunition. He was then remanded to prison due to the nature of the offence.


Fermin Matura, a 27-year-old technician, reported to police that on Saturday, June 9, at about 3:00 a.m., he was driving his vehicle in the company of two females. When he reached a pedestrian crossing by BTL Park on Newtown Barracks, one of the females requested a sudden stop and that’s when two men jumped into his vehicle. According to Matura, one of the men pulled out a firearm, cranked it and pointed it at him and ordered him to drive. Matura said he complied and drove the vehicle to Coney Drive where he was ordered to stop. He told police that he jumped out of the vehicle leaving behind his two assailants and the females inside. The men then sped off in his vehicle.

At about 3:30 p.m. on that same day, police detained Haylock, who was found running away from Matura’s vehicle on a street near the Charles Bartlett Hyde Building. Police also found Haylock in possession of 14  .40 live rounds of ammunition. Police also recovered Matura's blue 4-door Civic.
