Wayne Madrill42-year-old Wayne Madrill has been serving his country in the Belize Defense Force band for over twenty years. The Belize City resident was walking with a friend on Cemetery Road at about fifteen minutes to three on Saturday morning, July 28th, when a gunman approached and opened fire. While his friend escaped unharmed, Madrill was not so lucky. He was struck by a bullet and fell to the ground. According to reports, when Madrill fell to the ground the gunman walked up to him, stood over him and fired another bullet to the head. Madrill died on the spot.

Police investigation into this murder is ongoing. According to Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer, Madrill is not believed to have been the intended target. However, that did not stop the gunman from finishing off his deed and now, Madrill’s family as well as the community want to know why he was killed.

Police detained the friend that was walking with Madrill as part of their investigation. Meanwhile, the family is getting ready to bury their loved one, who will receive military honours when he’s laid to rest on Friday.
