People outside the Belize Police Department were wondering why it is that Corporal Eldon Arzu, President of the Police Association, and Sergeant Edlin Lorenzo, Vice-President of the Police Association, were not supported by more police officers during their media blitz against the Commissioner of Police. It is simply because this is no time to do so. Under the United Democratic Party administration, Belizean police officers are being treated better than they have ever been and the love continues.

Effective August 1st, all officers of the Patrol Branch will be receiving an additional hundred dollars ($100.00) in their pay. Also, officers’ living allowances will increase from $147.00 to $200.00. The Commissioner of Police, David Henderson recently visited the Eastern Division and invited officers to share their concerns. Improving the work environment was one of the top concerns. As a result of those discussions, money has been allocated for the rehabilitation of the police barracks at Eastern Division and in Hattieville.

The Belize Police Department is also under the Public Service’s allowance review. Once that review is complete the officers will see the true bump in their salary retroactive to August 1. Officers of the Belize Police Department will be quick to tell you that there are things that need to change, but it makes no sense to quarrel with those who are trying to change them.
