Gilroy Usher, Jr.PUP candidate for the last municipal elections, Gilroy Usher, Jr., appeared in Magistrate's Court on Monday, August 6th where he was charged for two counts of aggravated assault and a count of harm. He pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before Magistrate Aretha Ford, who granted him bail in the sum of $3,000. He was granted bail under the condition that he does not take a firearm or any deadly weapon to court when he goes to conduct business there. He met bail and his case was adjourned until September 24th. 


According to Police Constable, Edgar Poot, who is attached to the Prosecution Branch in Belize City, at about 12:25 on Friday, August 3rd, he along with Court Bailiff Gabriel Casey and Usher were inside Casey's office located at the Magistrate's Court. An argument soon started between Usher and Casey during which Poot attempted to escort Usher out of the room. During this, a struggle started between Poot and Usher during which Usher punched Poot to the right side of the face. According to police, Usher also swung his right hand to his right side during which a black firearm fell to the ground. Poot reported that he was fearful for his life as Usher was struggling with him trying to pick up the firearm but later calmed down.

Police recovered a black 9mm Taurus brand licensed firearm serial number TCX64462 along with a magazine and (9)live Aguila brand 9mm rounds from Usher.
