Thousands of Belizeans travelled from far to be a part of the event this year to celebrate the culture and food.

Speaking on this year’s festivities, President of the Belize Educational Fund and Day in the Park Committee, Phyllis Hughes said, “I am very happy to see so many Belizeans coming together all in one place. I also would like to offer my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Governor Pat Quinn for their acknowledgment always recognizing the many Belizeans living in the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois.”

During an official ceremony held before the start of the entertainment segment, Belize’s Minister of Health Hon. Pablo Marin received the keys for two ambulances from Secretary of State, Jesse White, which are already on the way to the country for use in Dangriga.  Secretary of State White said that the donation made to Minister Marin would not have been possible without the help and determination of Honorary Consul, Debbie Schell.

Minister Marin, after humbly accepting the much needed donation, said that he was overwhelmed by the aid given back to the country of Belize by Belizeans living abroad mainly those living in Chicago. He said that the donation was a clear sign that when we work together as one people, many great things can be accomplished.

Belize’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Nestor Mendez also addressed the thousands of Belizeans and reminded them never to forget home. He took the time to speak to Belizeans on the Belize/Guatemala Issue and he asked Belizeans living oversees to remain informed and educated on the issue as we move forward.

Highlights and interviews from the Chicago Belize Day in the Park were broadcast live on WAVE RADIO as the day ended with entertainment from Mime Martinez and LOVABOY.
