Placencia Assassins and the Belize Defence Force maintains Lead in PLB Competition Print E-mail

Lennox Castillo scored Police United 1st goal against R.G. City Boys UnitedThe Premier League of Belize 2012 Competition continued over the last week ending with six games across the country.

On Saturday, September 8th, there were two games played. At the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the home team, Paradise/Freedom Fighters and the visiting San Ignacio United FC played to a 1-1 draw. The Paradise/Freedom Fighters got on the scoreboard first when Victor Franco scored the 1st goal of the game in the 22nd minute of play to give his team a temporary lead. The game was then tied, a 1-1 when Joel Guzman scored the equalizing goal in the 40th minute of play.

Meanwhile, out at the Isidorio Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the host team, Belmopan Bandits blanked FC San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Jeromy James in the 41st minute of play.

The competition then continued on Sunday, September 9th, with four more games. At the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Police United edged R.G. City Boys United by the score of 3-2. The visiting R.G. City Boys United were the first to get on the scoreboard when Delroy Andrews scored the 1st goal of the game in the 15th minute of play to give his team a temporary lead.  Meanwhile, Police United was able to get on the board when Lennox Castillo scored the equalizing goal in the 22nd minute of play. The first half of the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the second half of the game, the Police United offence was able to turn up the heat where it tallied 2 more goals for the 3-2 victory over the visiting R.G. City Boys United. Evan Mariano scored the Police United go-ahead goal in the 67th minute of play to give his team a temporary lead. R.G. City Boys came fighting back when David McCauley, Jr. scored his team’s equalizing goal in the 72nd minute of play, only to be out -scored by Police United when Orlando Jimenez scored the winning goal in the 90th minute of play.

At the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the Belize Defence Force blanked the visiting San Pedro Seadogs by the score of 4-0. The goal scorers for the Belize Defence Force were Francisco Noralez in the 4th minute of play; Marlon Meza in the 45th minute of play; Vallan Symms in the 80th minute of play; a nd Byron Usher in the 90th minute of play.

Out at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk, FC Belize also blanked Juventus by the score of 2-0. The goals for FC Belize were scored by Cristobal Gilharry in the 75th minute of play and Lorenzo Diaz in the 89th minute of play.

In the final game of the day played at the Placencia Football Field, the defending champions Placencia Assassins edged Verdes FC by the score of 3-2 to maintain a perfect record so far in this year’s competition. The visiting Verdes FC got on the scoreboard first when Miguel Aguilar scored the first goal of the game in the 3rd minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, that lead was short-lived when Zerrick Torres scored the equalizing goal for Placencia Assassins in the 13th minute of play. Rollin Burgess then made it a 2-1 game when he was able to score in the 25th minute of play. Verdes FC was then able to tie the score at 2-2 when Emmanuel Martinez scored in the 45th minute of play.  The final goal of the game when then scored by Dalton Eiley in the 67th minute of play via a penalty kick that gave the Placencia Assassins the big win.
