RG City Boys slow down the Raging Placencia Assassins Print E-mail

Belize Defence Force’s Ralph Flores scored team’s only goal in the 34th minute of playThe Premier League of Belize 2012 Opening Tournament continued over the last week with a number of games played across the country.


On Thursday, September 20th, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, Police United kept pace with Verdes and the Placencia Assassins in Zone B when it blanked San Ignacio United by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Gilbert Carrilo in the 87th minute of play.

On Saturday, September 22nd, out at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo, the home team, Verdes edged the visiting Paradise/Freedom Fighters by the score of 3-2 to share in the lead of its division with the defending champions Placencia Assassins. The home team got on the scoreboard first when Humberto Requeña in the 24th minute of play for the 1-0 lead. That lead was further increased when Pedro Guerra scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 63rd minute of play.

It was not until the 70th minute of play that the Paradise/Freedom Fighters were able to get on the scoreboard when Robert Muschamp scored to cut the deficit to 1. However, the home team Verdes maintained its composure and got its 3rd goal of the game when Emmanuel Martinez scored in the 82nd minute of play.

The final goal of the game was scored by the visiting Paradise/Freedom Fighters when Alexander Peters scored in the 87th minute of play to pull his team within a goal. However, at the sound of the long whistle, it was indeed a 3-2 victory for the Verdes squad.

The competition then continued on Sunday, September 23rd, with 4 more games on the schedule. At the Placencia Football Field, the defending champions Placencia Assassins lost its first game of the 2012 campaign when the visiting RG City Boys United pulled off the biggest upsets of the championship so far with a 2-1 victory.   The RG City Boys were determined to cut the Placencia Assassins to size and started out on this quest with an early goal in the game. In fact, RG City Boys got on the scoreboard when Dalton Cayetano scored the 1st goal of the game in the 29th minute and from that point it never looked back.

The visiting RG City Boys then increased its lead to 2-0 when David McCaulay, Jr. scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 81st minute of play. However, the defending champions did not go quietly into that good night and was able to get on the scoreboard when Collin Westby scored in the 89th minute of play to pull his team within a goal, but it was not to be as time did expired on the Placencia Assassins.
At the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the Belize Defence Force and the Belmopan Bandits played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for the Belize Defence Force was scored by Ralph Flores in the 34th minute of play while the goal for the Belmopan Bandits was scored by David Madrid in the 75th minute of play.

In the game played out at the MCC Grounds, FC Belize and FC Barcelona played to a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, in the final game of the day played at the Lousiana Football Field in Orange Walk Town, the home team, Juventus FC blanked the visiting San Pedro Seadogs by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Michael Whittaker in the 21st minute of play.
