Belize District Basketball Competition at the Bird’s Isle Print E-mail

Lennox BowmanThe Belize District Basketball Association U-23 and Firms competition continued at the Bird’s Isle in Belize City. On Saturday, September 29th in the U-23 game played, Truckers defeated Cellular World by the score of 80-75. The top scorers for Truckers were Winston Reynolds with 36 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 6 steals; and Stafford Young with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist. For Cellular World, the top scorers were Marvin Skeet with 30 points, 16 rebounds, and 1 steal; and Justin Wade with 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals.


In the first Firms game of the evening, Airport defeated Atlantic Bank by the score of 74-51. The top scorers for Airport were Kelly Gillett with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals; and Vince Lamb with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Atlantic Bank were Marcel Orosco with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals; and Jermaine Tillett with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.

In game two, BTL defeated Port of Belize by the score of 56-50. The top scorers for BTL were Devon Lozano with 17 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals; and Lupito Acosta with 11 points, and 4 rebounds. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Port of Belize were Lennox Bowman with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 6 steals; and Warren Garcia with 11 points, and 2 rebounds.

The competition continued on Friday, September 28th with three games in the Firms competition. In game one, Belize Bank edged Bowen and Bowen by the score of 66-65. The top scorers for Belize Bank were Dominique Guzman with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist; and Troy Gabb with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. For Bowen & Bowen, the top scorers were Steve Bonnell with 29 points, and 5 rebounds; and Darren Neal with 12 points, and 9 rebounds. 

In game two, Central Bank won handily over BEL by the score of 44-27. The top scorers for Central Bank were Wilfred Richards with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals; and Edward Baptist with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Meanwhile, the top scorers for BEL were Leon Young with 10 points and 2 rebounds; and Lloyd Leslie with 6 points.

In the third and final game of the evening, BWS won over Smart by the score of 47-41. The top scorers for BWS were Lawrence Young with 10 points, and 8 rebounds; and Travis Lennon with 9 points, 15 rebounds and 1 assist.

For Smart, the top scorers were Jason Gentle with 14 points, and Kurt Budd with 8 points.
