Belize District Basketball rolls on at Bird’s Isle Print E-mail

Lennox BowmanThe Belize District Basketball competition in both the Firms and U-23 categories continued at Bird’s Isle over the last weekend with a number of games.

On Friday, October 5th, 2012, in the U-23 game Tuff E Nuff defeated Truckers by the score of 81-73. The top scorers for Tuff E Nuff were Jamal Kelly with 23 points and Luis Pitterson with 15 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Truckers were Carlston Barrera with 20 points and Winston Reynolds with 21 points.

In the first game in the firms competition, Atlantic Bank won over BEL by the score of 58-51. The top scorers for Atlantic Bank were Ervin Orosco with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals; and Marcel Orosco with 18 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

For the BEL squad, the top scorers were Lloyd Leslie with 26 points and 10 rebounds and; Brandon Cadle with 8 points and 5 rebounds.

In game two, BTL won over the Belize Bank by the score of 54-48. The top scorers for BTL were Lennox Cayetano with 20 points and 18 rebounds and; Lupito Acosta with 10 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Belize Bank were Troy Gabb with 20 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals; and Chris McGann with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

The competition then continued on Saturday, October 6th with a game in the U-23 category and 3 in the Firms category. In the U-23 game played, Belize Bank won over Belize Heats by the score of 70-49. The top scorers for Belize Bank were Lincey Lopez with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Maccario Augustine with 14 points and 5 rebounds. For Belize Heats, the top scorer was Jarron Palacio with 19 points.

In the first of three games played in the Firms competition, Port of Belize won handily over Central Bank by the score of 67-40. The top scorers for Port of Belize were Ian Augustine with 23 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals; and Lennox Bowman with 16 points and 4 rebounds. For Central Bank, the top scorers were Edward Baptist with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals; and Wilfred Richards with 9 points and 3 rebounds.

In game two, Airport edged Smart by the score of 63-60. The top scorers for Airport were Paul Swasey with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists; and Kelvin Gillett with 13 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists.

For Smart, the top scorers were Jason Gentle with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals; and Kurt Budd with 20 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

In the final game of the day, BWSL also edged Bowen & Bowen by the score of 66 to 61. The top scorers for BWSL were Ashley Hemsley with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals; and Andrew Gordon with 14 points and 7 rebounds.

For Bowen & Bowen, the top scorers were Steven Bonnell with 26 points and Michael Staine with 11 points and 17 rebounds.
