Belmopan Bandits and Placencia Assassins At top Of Football Standings Print E-mail

Jason Young scored 1st goal for RG City BoysThe Premier League of Belize Football Competition continued over the last weekend with a number of games across the country.

On Saturday, October 13th, at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, Verdes handed FC Belize its second defeat in this year’s competition by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Julian Maldonado in the 35th minute of play.

Out at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the Belize Defence Force won over the Paradise Freedom/Fighters by the score of 3-2. The Paradise/Freedom Fighters got on the scoreboard first when Leonard Valdez scored the 1st goal of the game in the 16th minute of play to give his team the lead. However, the lead was short-lived as the Belize Defence Force was able to get on the scoreboard when Harrison Tasher scored his team’s 1st goal in the 20th minute of play.

Once again the Paradise/Freedom Fighters took the lead in the closing minutes of the 1st half of the game when Alexander Peters scored his goal in the 45+ minutes of play for a 2-1 lead.

In the second half of the game, the offence for the Belize Defence Force came alive when it was able to score 2 more times. The Belize Defence Force’s equalizing goal was scored by Luis Mendez in the 64th minute of play while the winning goal was scored by Richard Jimenez in the 82nd minute of play.

At the game played out at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the defending national sub-champions Police United defeated FC San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 3-1. The only goal of the game for the San Felipe Barcelona was scored by Josue Acevedo in the 15th minute of play.

Meanwhile, the goals for Police United were scored by Amin August in the 24th minute of play; Evan Mariano in the 36th minute of play; and Daniel Jimenez in the 50th minute of play.

And at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the Belmopan Bandits defeated San Ignacio United by the score of 2-1. The visiting Belmopan Bandits got on the scoreboard first when David Trapp scored the 1st goal of the game in the 31st minute of play for an early lead. The lead was further increased when Denmark Casey scored his team’s 2nd goal in the 47th minute of play. The first half of the game ended 2-0 in favour of the visiting Belmopan Bandits.

The San Ignacio United FC was finally able to get onto the scoreboard when Carlos Vasquez scored in the 68th minute of play.

The competition then continued on Sunday, October 14th, 2012, with 2 more games on the schedule.

At the Placencia Field in Placencia Village, the defending National Football Champions Placencia Assassins defeated Juventus by the score of 2-0. The goal scorers for Placencia Assassins were Dellon Torres, who scored in the 34th minute of play and Collin Westby, who scored the second goal in the 50th minute of play.

And at the MCC Grounds, the home team RG City Boys defeated the San Pedro Seadogs by the score of 3-0. The goals for the RG City Boys were scored by Jason Young in the 7th minute of play, and Deon McCaulay, who scored in the 31st via a penalty kick and in the 38th minute of play.
