Main coordinator, Joris Groenendaal says the show involves some nineteen artists residing in the Cayo District and it is, “…to give them opportunity for self expression…to show [the] rest of the community what they can draw,” he says.

Present for the launching of the Cayo Art Collection were artists such as Jose Gabb, son of George Gabb, who himself was renowned for the ‘Sleeping Giant’ sculpture. Jose Gabb follows a ‘drive brush technique’, to paint mostly portraits, giving realism to such a degree, he says, that emotive signals can be read from the facial features. We asked Jose if he would follow his father's footsteps in working with wood sculptures, but he said he will take another route, in doing mostly portrait works.

Visitors can now visit the San Ignacio and Santa Elena House of Culture to also view the multicolored ‘Flying Colors’ by Kayla Jones. The Centre is located at the lower flat of the San Ignacio Town Council building.

The Cayo Art Collection 2012 will continue up to November 15th, 2012. At almost the same time, a photography workshop will be held on October 27th, 2012 at the Benque House of Culture, this time under the lead tutorship of Argentinian, Gabriel Sasiabarrera.
