Belmopan. October 30, 2012.
The Belize Dental Department of the Ministry of Health declares opened Dental Health Week under the theme: “Healthy Eating, Daily Brushing, Brighter Smiles for a Healthy Belize” from 28th October to the 3rd November.

The Dental Department has seen an increase of patients accessing the dental clinics from approximately 20,000 in 2009 to a record high last year of 31,430 patients receiving dental services countrywide. It is with this in mind that the department has embarked on a goal to provide more affordable dental services to the Belizean communities. The Ministry of Health is proud of the recent acquisitions of nine additional mobile dental units for service in remote communities across the country. We have also acquired nine Digital Pressure Monitors for hypertensive and diabetic patients and a scalar, which will now assist dentist to speed up the process of deep cleansing and prophylaxis.

During Dental Health Week, emphasis is made on creating dental awareness. Activities during this week will include, the distribution of tooth brushes, radio and television quizzes, radio talks, question and answer sessions at the Government dental clinics, teeth brushing drills, healthy and unhealthy foods illustrations, fluoride application, a poem and jingles competition, diplomas, healthy snacks, tags, and the distribution of other incentive gifts.

The Dental Department asks that the public takes advantage of this week’s activities to become familiar with all the leading alternatives we now have available for the safe maintenance of our dental organs. “We want every Belizean to live the wonderful experience in which Dentistry is compensated by the smile and confidence returned to our patience.”
