Hon. Herman Longsworth with winning playersSacred Heart College held a fair on October 26th and 27th, 2012 in San Ignacio Town. Both the Sacred Heart High School and Junior College teamed up for two days where a variety of shows were on the agenda. The fair last Friday started with students from the High School getting involved in dances, skits and a disco at the main campus located in San Ignacio Town.

But the main attraction came this past Saturday for the yearly Business Expo 2012. Some twenty businesses took part in the event and in so doing had ample opportunities to teach students life lessons in business. These included the Information and Communication Technologies Company, which was on hand to advertise their ability to distribute wireless internet for the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Area. Students were also able to witness how phone credits are entered from the SMART Communication Network.

The business expo, says main organizer, Fermin Magana, was designed to give Sacred Heart College students exposure to the selling and marketing of products. There were also opportunities for the students to socialize with business leaders. The profits from the expo will be going towards a long awaited auditorium at Sacred Heart College.

Running parallel with the Business Expo was a National sports event, organized by Youth For The Future. Some 250 youths participated in the marathon sports meet. By late evening and in a friendly atmosphere, it became evident who the winners were. Coming first in volleyball - for the second time in a row - was the team from Toledo with Orange Walk coming in second. Meanwhile, Belmopan came in first in basketball while Stann Creek came in second. The football team from Cayo also came in first and Stann Creek, second. Several of the participating teams were awarded cash prizes; the team from Cayo was awarded a thousand dollars in addition to medals and trophies.

Minister of Youth and Sports, the Hon. Herman Longsworth was present to hand over the trophies and other awards. Minister Longsworth congratulated the winners for Saturdays successful sport meet.
“The intent is about not so much about winning but about interacting with each other,” he said.

“You are the guys that in the future [will] represent Belize.”
