The Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports and the CXC National Committee of Belize also announced that Juana Teresa Meza of Stann Creek Ecumenical College is the Most Outstanding Candidate (i.e. first place) in Belize for the May-June 2012 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations. Meza obtained thirteen (13) Grade I’s at the General Proficiency in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, English A, English B (Literature), Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Religious Education, Social Studies, Spanish, Physical Education and Sport, Human and Social Biology and Electrical and Electronic Technology and two (2) Grade III’s in Caribbean History and Economics. Meza also achieved first place in the Sciences Subject Group and first in Spanish in Belize.

Kaylyn A. Habet of St. Catherine Academy is the Outstanding Candidate (i.e. second place) in Belize for the May-June 2012 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.  Habet attained twelve (12) Grade I’s at the General Proficiency in the following subjects: Biology, English A, English B (Literature), Information Technology, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Office Administration, Physics, Social Studies, Spanish, Physical Education and Sport and Human and Social Biology and one (1) Grade II in Chemistry. 

Jacky R. Cheng of Stann Creek Ecumenical College will be receiving the Subject Group Award in Business studies. Darinka L. Muñoz of Corozal Community College will be receiving the Subject Group Award in Humanities. Asher A. Canto of Edward P. Yorke High School will be receiving the Subject Group Award in Technical Vocational studies.

The Eighteenth Annual CXC National Awards Ceremony is scheduled to be held on November 22nd, 2012 at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts in Belize City.  At the Award Ceremony, the CXC National Committee of Belize will present several categories of awards to outstanding students in the CSEC Examinations.  Two hundred sixty (260) candidates will receive a Certificate of Excellence, four (4) will receive Subject Group Awards and 33 will receive Individual Subject Awards. The CXC National Committee of Belize will also recognize candidates who performed commendably in the CAPE Examinations.  Four (4) candidates will receive a CAPE Certificate of Excellence and seven (7) candidates will receive a Certificate of Recognition.  Awards will also be given to the country’s top CAPE candidates in 28 Individual Subjects. 

The Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports and the CXC National Committee of Belize once again congratulate all students who excelled in the CSEC and CAPE Examinations.  It is also important to recognize the parents, guardians, principals, deans and teachers whose invaluable support was pivotal in preparing the students to sit the examinations.  The result of the May-June 2012 CXC sitting is testament to the positive outcomes that result when the synergies from all education stakeholders, including corporate entities, come together for the common good of the Belizean society.  
The CSEC and CAPE examinations afford the students a certification that has regional and international currency.
