Roland Augustine, a representative from the Community Policing Unit was on hand to organize several sport meets.

“If you can occupy children in fun activities, they have less time to do idle things”, says Augustine, who forms part of a four man team of community policing within the San Ignacio Police Detachment.

President of the Kontiki Neighbourhood Watch Group, Vilma Stewart says that with the funds raised this past Sunday, at least three necessities for the Kontiki Area need to be fulfilled. These were for neighbourhood watch signs and for residents to buy fuel to clear their neighbourhood of high bush also, to help the local church to buy gifts for Christmas.

The Kontiki Neighbourhood Watch Group is just one of fourteen such groups in the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Area, which work closely with the San Ignacio Police Formation. Efforts are now ongoing to also involve the Shawille Community and spread the efforts of neighbours protecting neighbours to the rest of the Country.
