Avian Crawford scores for FC BelizeAs the regular season of the 2012 Premier League of Belize Football Competition, nears its conclusion, the defending national football champions Placencia Assassins recovered its winning format on Sunday, November 11th out at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village.  The Placencia Assassins found itself in a must-win game situation against the home team, Paradise Freedom/Fighters and with a 5-1 victory, put a halt to the downward sliding that it was experiencing in the closing rounds of the competition.

The visiting Placencia Assassins were the first to get on the scoreboard when Garry Young scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 36th minute of play for an early lead. The lead was increased when Bernard Linares scored his team’s 2nd goal in the 39th minute of play, and then it was further increased when Dalton Eiley scored in the 48th minute of play for a commanding 3-0 lead.

That 3-0 lead was then increased again when Ashley Torres scored his team’s 4th goal of the game in the 78th minute of play. The home team Paradise Freedom/Fighters were able to get on the scoreboard when Victor Franco scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 82nd minute of play to bring his team within 3 goals of the Placencia Assassins. However, that was short lived when Zerrick Torres scored his team 5th and final goal of the game in the 88th minute of play for the win.

In the game played out at the San Felipe Football Field in San Felipe Village, the BDF edged the host team San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 2-1. The goals for the BDF were scored by Luis Mendez in the 71st minute of play, and Ryan Simpson in the 85th minute of play. Meanwhile, the only goal of the game for San Felipe Barcelona was scored by Jaziz Wicab in the 90th minute of play.

At the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Verdes FC defeated the Police United Squad by the score of 3-1. The Verdes FC goals were scored by Julio Ayala in the 38th and 78th minutes of play and, Rodney Torres in the 82nd minute of play. For the Police squad, the lone goal was scored by Daniel Jimenez in the 62nd minute of play.

And at the MCC Grounds, FC Belize was right on pace to keep in the thick of things for a playoff berth when it defeated the visiting San Pedro Seadogs by the score of 3-1. The goals for FC Belize were scored by Ryan Gill in the 45th minute of play and Avian Crawford in the 48th and 74th minute of play.

For the San Pedro Seadogs, it was Linden Galvez that scored the only goal of the game in the 90th minute of play.

The competition also continued on Saturday, November 10th with 2 games on the schedule. At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Belmopan Bandits defeated Juventus by the score of 3-0. The goals for the Belmopan Bandits were scored by David Trapp in the 21st minute of play, Lincoln Wiltshire in the 46th minute of play and Floyd Jones in the 75th minute of play.

And in the game played out at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, San Ignacio United and RG City Boys United played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for the San Ignacio United team was scored by Floyd Lemus in the 56th minute of play, while the goal for the RG City Boys United was scored by Jason Young in the 70th minute of play.
